The Blue Cafe, Church Street, Leatherhead
The Blue Cafe has been in Church Street for some time, but has recently moved next door to much larger premises. It is open as a cafe during the day (closes 3 pm) and a Wine Bar in the evening. Modern and spacious, the cafe features exposed brickwork, wooden effect flooring and modern lighting. Arranged over two rooms, the seating is white in one room, black in another and you can’t help but notice the black and white designer chairs in the window that have the highest backs I have ever seen! There are a few tables outside for those willing to brave the weather.
Orders are taken at the large glass counter which has an enticing display of fillings on offer. A huge blackboard on the wall gives an impressive list of paninis, sandwiches, toasted sandwiches and jacket potatoes. Sandwiches are prepared in front of you at the counter, so you see exactly what you are getting and the fillings seem very generous. This does mean, however, that you should be prepared to queue and wait to place your order.
My cappuccino was a good strength with an earthy but not unpleasant taste and reasonably priced. I would recommend The Blue Cafe for a visit but would suggest that if you are just going for coffee, you avoid lunchtimes which could be very busy.

Tried out this very attractive coffee shop with a group of friends instead of our usual Costa meeting place. Coffee was good and reasonable priced. Loved the furnishings and decor.
However – it seem strange that a member of staff began to hoover the floor but I had assumed there was a spillage – I had my back to room and wasn’t too concerned by the noise of the hoover. Then a female member of staff came to our table and abruptly told us that they closed at 3 and it was now quarter to 4! We were so surprised we just apologised and said we had no idea that they would close so early. The reply came just as abruptly “there is a sign on the door”. We left feeling that we had definately outstayed our welcome but I wished I had told the young woman how rude I thought she was. We looked for the sign on the door – it was a very small notice with tiny print stating their hours of business. I think they should make it much clearer that they close and such an unusual early time for a coffee shop. I will NOT be back because of the rudeness of this member of staff and nor will my friends. Back to Costa!

My husband and I have used this cafe since it opened and have always found the owners -Piotr & Edyta – to be really friendly and welcoming. Their food is very well prepared and very good value for money and their new premises are comfortable and stylish. The staff are all Polish and have only limited English which may account for Alison’s view that they were rude and abrupt. They have managed to build a very large and loyal clientelle in the relatively short time that they have been open in Leatherhead and I would highly recommend this cafe to anyone.

DearHarmione Stevens.I am Polish and I found the owner extremely rude. The way how he addresses to costumers is a mistake. It is not a problem with english but those people attitude

I have been to the cafe with my parents and my partner etc for the past year. with regards to the cafe side of things and it makes a welcome change to that of costa and starbucks. However i have to say that i like it best when it is a Winebar in the evenings. It suits all sorts, a giggly night with the girls or a nice dinner with the parents. i have been there the most in the evenings and i find the staff etc a lot better then. Everyone is more relaxed and the atmosphere is much improved. its a welcome place to go for a drink, without it being a pub or restaurant. Without the blue cafe in Leatherhead, the evenings would be a lot more restricted and dull. A welcome change!!

I Love the Blue Cafe, we have been going to them for a few years now even before they moved to their new location. They are always polite, food is great, company is great.
i agree a much needed change to Costa & Starbucks.
I am yet to go to a wine evening, with a young daughter the daytime seems to be the only time we get there. Its on my list of “To Do’s”
Thank you BLUE CAFE

Without doubt the best coffee in town. Piotr is not effusive but certainly not rude and he and his staff are extremely hard working. The place is spotless (unlike Starbucks the tables are wiped after every customer) and the fact that it is often full speaks for itself. (There is no shortage of coffee outlets in Leatherhead.) In a short time the Blue Cafe has made a name for itself, largely because of the excellence of the food and the industry of the staff. The coffee here tastes of coffee and is not a bland standardised High Street product. You order at the counter and your coffee etc is brought to you at your table by waitresses who have always been charming to me. And it is cheaper than Starbucks and Costa. Recommended.

My favorite cafe in Leatherhead. I just love the atmospher and the quirky furnishings. Food is great esp. if you like big lunch portions. Their lunch menu includes a selection of sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes, soups, cakes and desserts.
They are always busy at lunch times so I think people may mistake lack of friendliness durning busy times for rudeness. They have many returning customers because the food is great and the service is quick during busy lunch hours.
They are also very accommidating as well as my fiance is a celiac therefore he cannot eat gluten therefore he normally has a jacket potatoe when we go there. However one day they had run out of jacket potatoes and they made him a special plate of a selection of their sandwich fillings which were gluten free with a large side salad.

Blue Cafe in Leatherhead.
I agree with the above, that are plain rude in there.
On Friday queued for 15 minutes only to find out they ran out of what I wanted. Today queued again for 15 minutes under a big sign listing dozen of jacket potato fillings only to be told that they did not have any. I mentioned to the man behind the counter that I had less than 5 minutes to get back to the office and that he could put up a ‘sold out’ sign to be told that it “was not his problem” if I was late back. RUDE

Never been treated as rudely and unpleasantly as in the Blue Cafe in Leatherhead. Will not go there again

I agree that the main guy can come across as being rude – but I don’t think he means to be and can actually turn out to be quite accommodating and dare I say “witty” given a chance (I put it down to a bit of foreign exentricity).
I have eaten there both at lunchtime and in the evening and although the evening menu is limited I have always enjoyed what I have chosen.
I certainly would not compare to a Costa or Starbucks – I think more upmarket than those!

The Blue Cafe serves the best Pasta Carbonara I have ever tasted anywhere.
Friendly people, good service and great food – the kids love it there too.

We go to a lot of cafes and are always looking for new and good ones to recommend to our friends and family, having read the reports I will not even be trying it, can’t stand rudeness even if the coffee is good.
